Women artists take over March

Panaji: Portraying the power of women and womanhood through the medium of art, artists in Goa are putting their paint brushes and sculpting tools together to offer a range of artworks.

Gallery Gitanjali will host 'Flow of Power', an exhibition of works by Katharina Kakkar on March 19. "In this body of 20 works, Katharina plumbs the feminine psyche and it's long struggle with patriarchal boundaries, both blatant and insidious," said Miriam Koshy-Sukhija, director, Gallery Gitanjali.

Another exhibition to be held on March 19, at Carpe Diem, Majorda, will have the main body of sculptures put up by women artists. "On display will be glass mosaic lamps and ceramic works using stone-ware clay by Nandini Dutta, figurative works in terracotta by Verodina D'Souza and ceramic works by Anjali Aney," said Daegal Godinho, director, Carpe Diem. A number of works are also on display at the Art EVEnt exhibition at the Harshada Kerkar art gallery, Miramar, where 35 female artists from Goa and beyond are exhibiting Goan rural life, ferry wharfs, transgenders, etc, on the canvas. The exhibition is open for public viewing till March 21.

An art exhibition titled, 'Diverse' has a variety of women artists ranging from communication designer, graffiti artist, tattoo artist, etc, who will be putting up their works on March 19 and 20 at Dias House, near electricity department, Panaji.

"Art is very diverse. Even if we're looking at the same style, we have diverse opinions," said Rashila Lobo, an artist.
