FOR ME PAINTING IS VISUAL MUSIC MEANT NOT TO EVOKE ONLY SPECIFIC MOODS
BUT HAVING MULTIPLE INTERPRETATION, THAT IS IN OTHER WORDS DEFINING MY
PAINTINGS AS ALMOST SOMETHING SO THAT IT COULD BE MANY THINGS AND ANYTHING’
-Suhas Shilker
Suhas's work inhabits a space whose triple points of reference are enigma, randomness/chaos and poetry.
The matrix from which forms take shape (rising from the collective unconscious through the artist's perception of reality) fascinates Shilker. The mystery of the precise point at which these images emerge is not a puzzle to be solved, but an enigma to be enjoyed.
The apparent randomness of Shilker's symbols evoke the process by which chaos resolves into order, but the realm in which this takes place is one of poetry.
Shilker's canvases fix the moment before the images ,symbols and forms that describe his world move together in a predictable manner or pattern or order; a magical moment pregnant with possibilities.
An unrestricted palette gives his work jewel -like luminosity due to the intensity of his colors and the delicate yet tensile ordering of his painterly language.
Shilker's vocabulary of symbols, gestural scrawls, linear marks, signs and symbols resist literal interpretation. This inexhaustible language makes each of his works equal unto themselves as well as articulating his belief in the transformative power possessed by all things.
